Make Happy your Mood
Fight the January Blues

Hi Subscriber First Name,

Happy New Year! I hope you’ve had a lovely Christmas and were able to spend some time with close friends and family.

Thanks for all your support in 2021. To kick off the new year I’d like to spread some positivity and happiness at a time in the year well known for winter blues, low mood and general feelings of melancholy.

Here’s 5 simple things to help you fight off the January blues, make happy your mood and boost your wellbeing:

1. Learn your emotions
The first pillar of emotional intelligence is self-awareness. Ask yourself: How am I feeling today? How do I want to feel? And how am I going to make that happen? More connections between the ‘thinking’ and ‘feeling’ parts of your brain, the more you can control your emotions rather than letting them control you.

2. Eat for your wellbeing
The food we eat can have a profound impact on our mental health. In fact, researcher Felice Jacka, found that eating a healthier diet can result in a 30% reduced risk of depression. Enjoy fermented foods like kombucha, kimchi and sourdough bread (a favourite of mine).

3. Get your exercise
Like nutrition, exercise plays a vital role in balancing our mental health. According to mental health charity Mind, exercise can boost our mood, improve our sleep and reduce stress, tension and mental fatigue. Do whatever exercise makes you feel good.

4. Be more socialable
The temptation when feeling blue is to withdraw from friends and family, even though these are the very people who can help us feel better. So, wallow no more, and instead surround yourself with friends who will lift your mood. It's been shown that socialising is critical for good mental wellbeing and helps ward off the winter blues.

5. Do more of what you love
It might sound simple, but passions and hobbies provide people with an outlet for escape, personal expression and something to look forward to. As the NHS suggests, doing things that you enjoy is good for your emotional wellbeing, it reduces stress and gives you more motivation. And doing an activity you enjoy probably means you’re good at it and achieving something boosts your self-esteem.

So, on the lines of ‘doing more of what you love’, I recently self indulged in creating this Limited Edition A5 ‘Happy 2022’ print. With hand crafted typography and printed in bright, feel-good colours using soy based inks. If you’d like a free print, request yours below:

(First come, first serve basis. Limited availability)

If you’ve been inspired to create your own wellbeing campaign, I’d love to work with you, get in touch.

Here’s to making 2022 your best year yet!

Much love and happy vibes,
Laura x
